Traffic Calming Commission Meeting Minutes

May 31, 2005

Meeting was called to order and the minutes from the last meeting were approved. Members present: Walter Phelps, chairman, Chris Petrak, Peter Lillienthal, David Clarkson, and Dan DeWalt.

Chris Petrak reported recommended locations for the proposed Baker Brook/Dover Road three-way stop signs: Eastbound - about 25'past bridge, Westbound, approx. lined up with next to last post on Kuebler's porch.

Dan DeWalt reported materials costs for signs at under $200.

Discussion was held and it was decided not to present the proposal to the board of selectmen until all five members could be present.

It was proposed and decided to write a petition explaining the proposal and soliciting opinion throughout the town prior to the next full selectmen meeting.

More thought was put into negative aspects of proposal. Inconvenience was recognized.

It was reported that the Williamsville postmaster estimates around 400 stops a day at the P.O. by residents. It was agreed that this intersection is a problem of safety as much as it is of traffic calming.

Discussion moved to brainstorming ideas for the next appropriate phase of the committee's efforts. It was decided to explore low impact, low cost measures that could be tried on a temporary basis. Pedestrian crossing cones, or speed limit cones were mentioned. Areas of possible use were mentioned as West Street and South Newfane/Williamsville. This will be investigated further before the next meeting to be held on Mon. June27, at 7:00 at the Williamsville hall.

Meeting was adjourned at about 8:15.
