MINUTES -
SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN
DECEMBER 22nd, 2003
NEWFANE TOWN OFFICE
PRESENT:
Selectmen: Piet van Loon, Priscilla Cotton, Gary Katz, and Chris Williams
Absent: Gorty Baldwin
Also Present: Philip E. Bartlett and Doris Knechtel, Administrative Assistant.
1. CALL TO
ORDER
The Special Meeting was called to order at 12:04 p.m. Chairman Piet van
Loon.
3. TO TRANSACT ANY OTHER BUSINESS THAT MAY LEGALLY COME BEFORE
THE NEWFANE SELECTBOARD
A. The representative from the USPS, William Moncrief, will be in attendance
at the January 8th meeting of the Selectboard to discuss a new Newfane
Post Office. He has been told that he will need to begin the Community
Contact Process anew. There is some question about the amount of acreage
for the previous proposal. The building will be a lease situation.
B. G. Katz provided the Board members with a draft report of the Selectboard
for the Town Report to be reviewed for comments and finalization at the
January 8th meeting.
2. EXECUTIVE SESSION - PERSONNEL EMPLOYMENT
Motion was made by P. Cotton and seconded by G. Katz to enter into Executive
Session at 12:10 p.m. to discuss employment of personnel with all present
to be included. Unanimous. Motion was made by G. Katz and seconded by
P. Cotton to come out of Executive Session at 12:34 p.m. Unanimous.
P. Cotton thanked those involved in the interview and reference check
process, G. Katz, C. Williams, and P. Bartlett for a "job well done".
Motion was made by G. Katz and seconded by P. Cotton to offer the Newfane
Road Foreman's job to Kurt Bostrom. Unanimous.
Motion was made by P. Cotton and seconded by G. Katz to pay the new Road
Foreman at the rate of $16.26 per hour. Unanimous. G. Katz will contact
K. Bostrom to see if he will accept the position. If he accepts the position,
G. Katz will contact the Board members and will contact Todd Lawley, a
candidate for the position from the Town Highway Crew, of the Board's
decision. G. Katz will also contact the current Road Foreman, J. Gray.
Letters will be written by the Administrative Assistant to all that applied
for the position to inform them of the Board's decision.
4. ADJOURNMENT
Motion was made by P. Cotton and seconded by C. Williams to adjourn the
Special Meeting at 12:45 p.m. Unanimous.
