MINUTES - SPECIAL MEETING OF THE NEWFANE SELECTBOARD
DECEMBER 4 th, 2006
NEWFANE TOWN OFFICE
PRESENT:
Selectmen: Daniel DeWalt, Patricia Halloran,, and Hendrik van Loon.
Absent: Joseph Mandell and Christopher Williams
Also Present: Doris Knechtel, Administrative Assistant
1. CALL TO ORDER
The Special Meeting was called to order at 1:00 p.m. by Chairman van
Loon.
2. HILLARY COOKE - NORTHERN BENEFITS - HEALTH CARE PACKAGES
Board members agreed to meet with Hillary Cooke, a broker from Northern
Benefits, to review various Health Care options for the town to consider.
He provided employee health analysis for MVP, small group plans from
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont - J Plan , Vermont Freedom Plan,
Vermont Health Partnership, and a few HMO plans. Information on the
services and a breakdown for each plan was reviewed and discussed
by the Board. The town share and employee share of the costs (town
share currently 80% - employees - 20%). Various questions were raised
regarding pre-existing conditions, net work of physicians , regular
versus HMO=s, etcetera. Information provided was very informative.
The town has received compatible prices from another insurance broker
and has a third broker to be in contact with. Piet van Loon and DAK
attended a CIGNA VLCT Trust insurance meeting in Dover on Friday,
December 1. The prices on those plans is forthcoming.
3. UPCOMING MEETINGS
The Selectboard will meet on Tuesday, December 5th at 6:30 p.m. on
the proposed Personnel Policy; on Thursday, December 7th at 6:30 p.m.
for the regular meeting; on Monday December 11th at 7:00 p.m. for
a budget meeting and on Tuesday, December 12th at 7:00 for public
review of the revised flood hazard area maps for Newfane
4. ADJOURNMENT
Motion was made by D. DeWalt and seconded by P. Halloran to adjourn
the meeting at 2:30 p.m. All in favor.
