SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN
OCTOBER 10th, 2000
NEWFANE TOWN OFFICE

PRESENT:
Selectmen: Mike Rohan, Jesse Anderson, and Richard Dowley
Absent: Lynn Bedell and Carter Van Iderstine.

1. CALL TO ORDER

The Special Meeting was called to order at 5:45 p.m. by Chairman Michael Rohan.
2. DISCUSSION OF PHASE TWO BIDS - SOUTH WARDSBORO ROAD (TH#1) The bid/estimate received was from Fitzpatrick Excavating for the installation of 17 new culverts and the reinstallation of an existing one. The ditches are also to be stone lined. The original amount present at the meeting in the afternoon with William A. Noyes, District #2 Technician, was for $95,322.51, which W. Noyes felt was too high, especially for the stone fill. The rate for CY of stone fill was reduced from $47.45 to $37.00 which reduced changed the total for the bid estimate to $86,962.51. The contractor will also try to save some of the cost by using some to the ditch material if possible to improve and flatten the side slopes in some areas.

Motion was made by J. Anderson and seconded by R. Dowley to award the bid to Fitzpatrick Excavating for Phase II of the South Wardsboro Road (TH#1) for the amount of $86,962.51. Unanimous. The project needs to move toward completion before the winter season sets in. It is anticipated that the first layer of blacktop will be able to be applied this year.

3. TO TRANSACT ANY BUSINESS THAT MAY LEGALLY COME BEFORE THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN A. The specification for the flood work to be completed on Steep Way (TH#21), Newfane Hill Road (TH#20), Upper Spring Hill Road (TH#23) and Sawmill Road (TH#77) were given to Fitzpatrick Excavating and Roger Farnsworth at the afternoon meeting with Wm. Noyes, R. Dowley and J. Gray. Estimates for those jobs are due at the office at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17th.

B. The pipe that was broken by a contractor while installing a replacement septic system at the Ray Williams property on Route 30 across from WW Building Supply was discussed briefly. It appear to be an old pipe from an unknown location. J. Feifel is looking into the matter.

4. ADJOURNMENT Motion was made by J. Anderson and seconded by R. Dowley to adjourn the meeting at 6:00 p.m. Unanimous.
