MINUTES - SPECIAL MEETING OF NEWFANE SELECTBOARD
JULY 11th, 2007
NEWFANE TOWN OFFICE
PRESENT:
Selectmen: Daniel DeWalt, Joseph Mandell, Peter Rysz, and Guy Wachtel
Absent: Ellen Darrow
Also Present: Doris Knechtel, Administrative Assistant
1. CALL TO ORDER
The special meeting was called to order at 9:01 a.m. by Chairman Mandell.
2. SET THE TAX RATE FOR FY 2008
The information for the proposed municipal tax rate was explained
by the Administrative Assistant. The increase in the Grand List as
a result of the reappraisal brings the proposed rate to $0.3578, down
from $0.5137 for FY 2007. The town has not yet received the education
tax rate from the state. This presents a problem with getting the
tax bills out in a timely fashion. The first payment is to be due
on August 15th and tax bills should be sent 30 days before the first
payment is due. The date of the first payment may have to be changed.
Motion made by G. Wachtel and seconded by P. Rysz to set the Municipal
Tax rate at $0.3578 for FY 2008. Unanimous.
3. TO TRANSACT ANY OTHER BUSINESS THAT MAY LEGALLY COME BEFORE THE
SELECTBOARD
The following topics were discussed briefly to update those present
about recent town happenings.
• Status of the Administrative Assistant interview process.
• Culhane Corner meeting with the contractor on Tuesday, July
10th in the morning with one Board member and the Road Foreman.
• Reminder of the Special Meeting to be held on Monday, July
16th at 4:30 p.m. at the Town Office to meet with the contractor for
the Culhane Corner project regarding the final contract for the project.
• Discussion of the meeting at the Radway Hill/River Road intersection
on July 10th in the afternoon. Matt Mann from Windham Regional, Bob
Harrington, Engineer, Mike Fitzpatrick, Todd Lawley as Road Foreman,
Joe Mandell and Peter Rysz were present. M. Mann submitted results
of his recent traffic survey.
